The Children and Families of African Heritage Society (CHAFAHS) aims to create an inclusive community platform that educates members about the history and contributions of minority groups of African heritage, both within and outside British Columbia and Canada. It fosters a safe environment for community leaders, parents, and stakeholders to share ideas on promoting inclusivity and combating racism and discrimination. The society supports families and children through professional career coaching, financial literacy, mental health resources, and assistance with settling in British Columbia, particularly Vancouver Island. It also provides platforms for sharing lived experiences, empowering families to make healthy choices, and addressing systemic racism. Additionally, CHAFAHS organizes food drives, volunteer opportunities, and skill-building activities in arts, sports, and community services for youths, young adults, and seniors, while reducing loneliness among African heritage seniors through increased social interaction.
Our Mission
Our mission is to create a welcoming space where people of all backgrounds can experience and engage with African culture through music, dance, visual arts, storytelling, and education. We aim to foster cultural appreciation, inspire creativity, and build stronger, more inclusive communities.
